Well, I was bored and thought that it was time to start another art project. I decided that I wanted to do something with a little color to it instead of black and white. I ended up doing a leopard in acrylic. This is my second time ever painting in acrylic. I am slowly learning how to use it and manipulate it. But like I said I am still learning. If anyone has any tips or ideas about acrylic I would love to hear them. I've never taken a class so I am doing this all with my own trial and error. I would love any tips and ideas from you. Here is my picture, it only took me about 8 hours to do. Enjoy.....

Art for Gavin
Here are a couple of pictures that I made for my wonderful son Gavin. I made these this year. The first one is a Curious George picture with his name on it. I made it earlier this year. He loves George. He will even call himself a monkey and act like George does. I still need to frame it but for now it is just hanging on his wall. I did the whole thing in colored pencils.
this second one I made to go in Gavin's bathroom. His bathroom is done in a jungle theme. He has the shower curtin, towels, and the garbage can. All he needed was a picture on his bare walls. I did the whole thing in pen and color pencils. It didn't turn out as good as I thought it would. But it works for him. Just little projects to keep me busy. I love my son very much and will do anything for him. If we had our own home I would paint fun murals on his bedroom walls. Some day that will happen. In the mean time I will keep drawing him fun little pictures.

Is it cheating or not?
Today I decided to make a new picture. Just something that I could hang on the wall in our bathroom or kitchen. I love daises so I decided to go with that. I didn't want to draw it in pencil. That just wasn't what I had in mind. I didn't want to paint because I just wasn't in the mood to making a big mess. I remembered that I had watercolor pencils. This was perfect. Just what I had in mind. I drew the outline and then started coloring it with the pencils. I tried to explain it to my husband that it will change when I add water to it. He just didn't get it. I took a wet brush and went over the color that I had already applied. Of course it started to look like I was painting with watercolors. The first thing he said was "that's cheating!" Yes, it is easier, but I still had to draw the picture and decide what color to use and where to put it. I don't know, what is your opinion. Is it cheating? I get that it is easier, that is why I did it, but is it cheating? I don't think so, I think it is just another form of art. In the end, when I was done, it looked good just not quite there yet. So I did add a little of real watercolor to it. I like it. Simple but good enough to hang. What is your opinion?

It's finally Finished!!!!
I finally finished my picture! It has been haunting me for over a month now. I stayed up until 3 am last night to finish it and it was worth it. I am so happy and relieved that I am done with it. To be honest I almost didn't think it would ever get done. The whole thing is done in ink using stippling. There isn't one line in the whole picture. Everything was done using dots. That is why it took me so long to finish it. I could only do so much at a time before my hand started hurting from all the dots. I think I might wait awhile before starting another project. That was too brutal, I need some down time. If I had to guess I would say that the whole thing probably took me about 25 hours to do it. Here it is, what do you think?

Old Sketches in Pencil
Today I wanted to share with you my old sketches. I did all of these back in High School. My favorite thing to sketch has got to be animals. I have tried people, I can't draw them as well. Animals are so simple but yet beautiful to me. All these pictures where done in pencil. I love to draw in pencil. In my opinion it is the true foundation of any art. Look at the great artists in history and their famous works. All those masterpieces started off as a sketch done in pencil or some form of graphit. I have probably done over a hundred sketches in my life, here are just a few of my favorites......
Sorry that some of these are a little blurry, I don't know how to scan them into the computer yet. So these are just pictures taken with a camera. Hopeful in the future my husband can hook the scanner up and teach me how to use it. If that happens soon I will scan these pictures in and redo them so they look a little better.

I'm Starting to see dots everywhere
I started this art project about a month ago. I haven't finished it yet, but I am getting close. The reason it is taking me so long is that I am doing the whole thing in ink, and I figured it would look better if I did it using stippling. I can only do a little at a time or I start to go cross eyed. I am almost done. I'm hoping to have it finished by next week. When it is done I will post it for everyone to see. But I am starting to see dots everywhere!!! I guess you can say that I am starting to get frustrated, but I can't stop until it is finished. I hope it looks good. Oh-well, I'm sure it will turn out fine. I do want to show you a few examples of stippling so you have an idea what it is. Enjoy!
The one on the left is by Mark ( I can't find his last name, sorry); and the one on the right is by Miguel Endara. If you click on the picture it will enlarge it so you can see the stippling effect. I admire what these artists have done with these pictures. It takes a lot of patience.

My favorite artist

My favorite artist has got to be Claude Monet. I know everyone says that he is their favorite, but he really is mine. He inspires me. I love his use of color. If you look at his paintings you can find the whole spectrum of color in them. I've learned a lot just from seeing his pictures. I've tried to do similar when using color. Of course mine aren't even close to his. His pictures just take my breath away at how beautiful they are. Here are a few
samples of his, enjoy.....

A little about Me
Hello, My name is Sarah Penberthy. I decided to create this blog for two reasons. First, to let people know a little more about me. Second, to show off my art work. I'm not the greatest artist in the world. I've actually had teachers tell me to pick something different to do in life because I will never make it as an artist. Then there is my Husband, bless his heart, he says I'm good enough to sell them. I wouldn't go that far. I think he is just trying to be nice. Anyways, the main reason why I want to share my art is to let people see how I perseve the world. This is just for fun. I only draw as a hobbie. I've always loved art. I come from parents that are good artists. My mother use to do tole painting, and my father was just like me-a good sketcher. I guess it is in my blood. But I do have to thank my mother for supporting me and encouraging me to pursue my love for it. I started taking classes when I was 9 years old. I haven't done anything for the past 5 to 6 years because I had a baby. Now that my beautiful son, Gavin, is 4 years old I now have time to start it up again. I've only done a couple of things so far. But through out this whole blogging experience I would love to hear from you. Your thoughts and opinions. Feel free to say whatever, you can't hurt my feelings I've heard it all before. Just remember, I'm not doing this for a career, this is just for fun. But I will post some of my old stuff and my new stuff. I just hope you have fun with me sharing my passion.
Love, Sarah
